Christoph Hoch

Rosé Rurale NV

A beautiful dark red shimmering colour, the nose of this sparkling rosé almost reminds us of Burgundy - enticing and forest-like in its aromas. Then, on the palate, a vibrancy and zestiness appears that you weren't expecting. Incredibly complex and delightfully crushable, this keeps giving more and is somewhat the underdog of the Christoph Hoch wine stable.

From Hollenburg in the Kremstal region of Austria, this is a Zweigelt, Sankt Laurent and Muskat Ottonel blend. The Zweigelt wine is whole bunch pressed, creating a wine with almost no colour. This becomes the "engine" of the wine. The Sankt Laurent and Muskat Ottonel parts of the wine are "reserve wine" from the previous vintage, fermented together as a semi-carbonic maceration, bringing the colour to the wine. These are blended into the Zweigelt mid-fermentation, in the barrel. The wine finishes fermenting in bottle, pét-nat style. No SO2 added at all.
